How to increase libido

Libido, Men & Women’s Sexual Desire

Libido is defined as a person’s sexual drive or desire for sexual activity. Libido is mainly increased or decreased by the production or reduced production of testosterone. Men and women experience peak levels of libido at different ages, men hit their libido peak at age 18, while women reach theirs at age 30. Both men and women will start producing less testosterone typically at the age of 30 and production will continue to drop as you grow older. Although there’s always the option to take testosterone supplements, which in turn would help to increase libido, there are also several other ways to help set the mood and increase libido naturally.

Reducing Stress Can Help Increase Libido

While men may associate sex as a stress reliever, women on the other hand will typically shy away from sex when they are stressed. Reducing stress in your life is extremely important when trying to increase your, or your partners, libido. Consider giving each other massages which not only helps to set the mood, but can help to relieve stress and increase libido.

Also consider removing stress reminders from your room when attempting to get intimate. This could include work papers, pictures of family or relatives which could cause distractions or remind you of stressful situations, or other items in the room.

Staying in shape, which we’ll talk about later, is also important in building confidence and reducing stress levels. A healthier body will help you to feel better, younger, happier, and less stressful and therefore will help to increase libido.

Take Your Vitamins & Eat Healthy

In addition to leading a stress-free life, certain vitamins and foods can also help to increase your libido. The following vitamins have been shown to help increase libido:

  • Vitamins A, C & E
  • Zinc
  • Arginine
  • Vitamin B Complex
  • NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

Obviously the above vitamins are good for your health in general and a healthy amount should be taken each day regardless, but these are the primary vitamins which can help to increase libido.

The following foods are also great to help increase libido, stay healthy, and increase production of testosterone:

  • Celery
  • Bananas
  • Raw Oysters
  • Avocado
  • Mangoes
  • Nuts
  • Peaches
  • Strawberries
  • Eggs
  • Liver
  • Figs
  • Garlic
  • Pumpkin
  • Chocolate

Chocolate is also a natural aphrodisiac, as is coffee and red wine, and may help to peak sexual desire when consumed prior to a sexual encounter. Coffee and chocolate will also help to increase energy and physical endurance while helping to release endorphins.

Stay In Shape, Exercise & Eat Healthy

Increased percentage of body fat can stifle the production of testosterone, decreasing your libido. Eating healthy and working out will help to keep your body fat at a reasonable level, making you more attractive and helping to increase your production of testosterone. Also, by avoiding high cholesterol, which can clog your arteries, you can help to increase blood flow to the genital region which will help to increase sex drive. For men, belly fat can be a high concern as the fat in that area tends to absorb testosterone.

When working out, your muscles are being torn down and rebuilt, this causes your body to naturally produce more testosterone, resulting in testosterone spikes during a workout and lasting several hours after. Couples may consider working out together prior to a scheduled intimate encounter, or if you find that your interest levels are lower than your partner, you may want to consider a workout prior to an intimate encounter.

As a side note, men experience spikes in testosterone production in the morning which is typically their highest level of libido in a day. Therefore, men who are struggling with low sex drive may consider engaging in sexual activity in the morning rather than at night.

Set The Mood & Control The Atmosphere

Removing distractions, such as work files or distracting pictures, can help to reduce loss of interest, but there are also many things which can help to increase interest.

Smell, for instance, is extremely important and can greatly help to increase sexual desire and libido. According to studies, both men and women experience increased blood flow in the genital area when introduced to the smell of pumpkin and lavender. Men also like the smell of cinnamon or vanilla (vanilla being favored by older men), but pretty much any scent will help to increase sexual interest for men. In contrast to popular belief, while women my enjoy the smell of men’s cologne, it doesn’t actually “turn them on”.

Lighting and music can also be very helpful for setting the mood. Dimly set lighting and/or candle light can help to increase sexual desire and libido. And, if all else fails, or if you want to further increase sexual desire, stamina, and help increase lean muscle, consider testosterone therapy.
