Growing Obesity Rates In America

Being obese these days means exactly the opposite. It means you are not taking good care of yourself, you are probably not rich, and you have health problems related to or caused by your weight.

A poll published by Gallup in October 2012 shows the obesity rates in the US climbed in all age groups. As many as 30.4% of Americans in their mid-40s are obese and if we will continue on at the present rate 50% of the middle aged USA population will be obese by 2030.

Doctors are warning that we are in an obesity and chronic disease crisis, although we don’t know it yet. The World Health Organization says “Governments have been very slow to act around the world … abdicating the responsibility largely to individuals.”

Rise of Obesity In American Is Causing Increased Cases of Diabetes

In Japan, 1 in 20 adult women are obese. In the US the ratio is 1 in every 3 women. If the trend continues as it is now, researchers warn, it will equate to 7.8 million more cases of diabetes and 6.8 million extra cases of coronary heart disease.

The Causes Behind The Growth of Obesity In America

The obesity, they say, has been caused by changes in the global food system and the increased availability of processed and affordable foods, coupled with a more sedentary lifestyle. Reversing the trend will require eating less processed foods and exercising more. But not every diet regimen is good for everyone. Starting a diet and failing then starting another one has a tremendous discouraging effect on people. Losing weight nicely but gaining it back a few months/years later is said to be very harmful to your heart.

Since there are many causes for the body to spend less calories than you intake, it should be considered a medical problem and treated by professionals. The cause of the weight gain should be examined. Is it hormonal? Are the glands in your body work like they should? Are you causing damage to your body by eating foods that harm you?
